Disability Awareness Drama Group
Initiated by the South African NGO Zanempilo Trust, this programme aims to educate and inform communities about disabled people through the medium of drama. A larger goal is to increase the respect shown toward people with disabilities, in part by increasing the sense of self-respect and achievement on the part of members of the drama group.
Communication Strategies
The drama group consists of 14 members, 12 of whom are people with disabilities and two of whom are community rehabilitation workers (CRWs), each of whom has a disabled child. The group created a play with disability as its focus, which was performed at a number of schools. This play was intended to educate the public on the life of a disabled person.
