After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Condom Commandos - Documentary

Condom Commandos is a 24-minute documentary film, produced by the Agency for Co-operation and Research in Development (ACORD), which follows the implementation of "Stepping Stones", a methodology which is used in a wide number of African countries to communicate behaviour change messages around gender equality, prevention of HIV and AIDS, and related issues.

The documentary was shot in Angola with members of the Angolan Armed Forces, as well as the surrounding "at risk" community. It is designed to be used as an advocacy and sensitisation tool for issues concerning gender equality, behaviour change, and culture in relation to HIV and AIDS. The film shows Stepping Stones in action in the army and, in parallel, with women from the village adjacent to the barracks. On screen, local women confront soldiers about their behaviour, and the impact on the community of 5,000 troops who are stationed far from home and who are careless about the health risks related to the buying of sex from impoverished local women and girls. The documentary shows how Doctor Andre Chimuco leads his troops to talk frankly about sex and how he changes their ideas about women, power, and safer sexual behaviour.

The documentary is accompanied by a screening guide.

In October of 2008 the film was recognised at the 44th Chicago (Illinois, United States) International Film Festival in the Intercom category with the 24-minute documentary Gold Plaque award.

Good afternoon from Lukikeba Mampuya one of independent's united nations consulting and no govrnmental's president of world food day committee working in DRCONGO in assisting people and small and industries in developing them; so, what are our needes, are to be supported to this work, any cense or euro to be in possession of any tools or materials like books, reviews and resources will keep us free to assist them, but I am very satisfy to you work that's so way I can take my time to write, so and so, we want to see visibility of our actions together,please transmit our requests to your colleagues to info@ao.acordinternational.org to teh programm coordinator ;this director is not far from DRCONGO to coordinate same of projects will help in assisting ngos and people,its the same thing for acord in uganda; we need this video and free publications because the the Congo's economy is not in the good levels.
So, we need your presence in with many actions it will be better!
