Media development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Mera - Medical Education Resource Africa

SummaryText
This publication aims to be a premier journal of continuing medical education in Africa. Mera is published six times per year and brings together a rotation of journals into a single volume educational resource. Each volume of Mera includes the international section and the Africa Health journal. This is followed by the rotations, which include Tropical Doctor, African Health Sciences, Journal Choice, Diabetes International, and the African Journal of Respiratory Medicine.

The international section provides an opportunity for international organisations to communicate with Africa's health professionals about projects they are involved in or outcomes of significant research that needs disseminating further. Topics covered have included updates on malaria from the Roll Back Malaria campaign; news from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB) & Malaria; a supplement on advances in child health; and an article on drug resistant TB in diabetes mellitus.

Africa Health is a review journal covering letters, news, a clinical quiz, key research abstracts, and selected papers.

Tropical Doctor includes a mix of original and review papers; short reports and case reports; a special section on methods and devices; and letters, news and book reviews.

Journal Choice aims to help provide greater profile and presence to medical journals originating from within Africa. A guest reviewer is appointed for each edition, and he or she selects articles of interest from a range of journals submitted. The articles are then reproduced in full text, plus a short promotional listing about the journal of origin and how to subscribe etc.

According to the journal's website, also has an enhanced distribution network that incorporates the use of local mail as well as harnessing other means such as via Ministries, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), professional associations, mission groups, and industry.
