Media development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
This toolkit on malaria prevention in Zambia, produced by the Health Communication Partnership (HCP) Zambia (a project of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health/Center for Communication Programs), was created to help Neighborhood Health Committees, community health workers, and community volunteers and leaders to educate their communities about malaria prevention methods and encourage behaviour change activities in their communities that would lead to the prevention of malaria. As stated in the toolkit, all the activities can be done using people’s time, materials, and support available in their own communities, and with little or no outside funding.

The toolkit includes:
  • 5 Malaria posters
  • 1 Audio CD with 2 Action for Health with Sister Evelina episodes and 5 malaria spots. Topics covered by the audio spots are insecticide-treated nets, intermittent preventive treatment (malaria in pregnancy), malaria treatment, and indoor residual spraying.
  • 1 Drama set with 4 sample scripts
  • 1 Quiz with malaria quiz questions and answers
  • 1 Handbook
  • 2 Annie the Anopheles plastic bags
