Media development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

MediaInZimbabwe (MIZ) Website

SummaryText

The brainchild of a senior Zimbabwean journalist, this website is designed for Zimbabwean journalists and those who write about Zimbabwe - a country going through a difficult transition period as it works to emerge from crisis into a young democracy. MediaInZimbabwe (MIZ) is not a news website, but, rather, a tool for journalists. It intends to serve as a platform for networking that keeps journalists - including freelance journalists - up to date on training opportunities and organisations supportive of their work. The website also serves to stimulate debate by occasionally offering commentary on issues, guidance to deal with the Zimbabwean crisis, and explorations of the challenging issues (e.g., repression) facing the Zimbabwean media.

Sections of the online resource focus on the following (with annotated summary description and/or contact details, where applicable):

  • Media in Zimbabwe
  • Media training
  • Media organisations
  • Media in distress
  • Media history
  • Key Zimbabwean organisations

The resource is interactive in that it uses social networking fora such as Twitter and FaceBook and links journalists with newsmakers through a Question & Answer (Q&A) section where they may exchange information about their performance in their areas of expertise.
