Media development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Teachers Without Borders - Nigeria

Teachers Without Borders _ Nigeria (TWB-Nigeria) is the Nigeria programme of Teachers Without Borders, a non-profit educational organisation dedicated to bridging the information and digital divide through professional development of formal and non-formal educators. In Nigeria this has included the establishment of Community Teaching and Learning Centers (CTLC) .
Communication Strategies
The organisation provides training in technology for doctors to conduct research on HIV/AIDS as well as to empower community educators and other stakeholders to appropriately respond to HIV/AIDS. TWB is represented in 18 Nigerian states and in several communities.

During the launch of the organisation in 2002 it convened two teacher conferences to focus on teacher training, HIV/AIDS education, information communication technology (ICT) development and professional outreach in order to improve the quality of education in Nigeria. TWB also initiated several efforts to mobilise a multi-dimensional battle against the further spread of the virus in Nigeria. It also organised several awareness and basic training programmes for women's groups, youth, and people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). The organisation launched the Head Teachers Training (HTT) Programme on HIV/AIDS, where school head teachers are being trained to serve as counsellors and mentors to peer educators in schools.
