Media development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
This collection of guides, factsheets, posters, banners, radio scripts, and a t-shirt template was produced as part of the Stop Malaria Project (SMP) to encourage bed net ownership, usage, and proper maintenance. They also address other desired behaviours related to malaria, such as transmission of malaria, identification of symptoms, treatment, and indoor residual spraying.

The Stop Malaria Project (SMP), led by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health/Center for Communication Programs (CCP) and funded by the President's Malaria Initiative (PMI) and United States Agency for International Development (USAID), was designed to assist the Government of Uganda to reach the PMI and Roll Back Malaria goal of reducing malaria-related mortality by 50% by 2010. CCP worked in partnership with the Malaria Consortium, Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI), Communication for Development Uganda (CDFU), and the Uganda Health Marketing Group (UHMG).
The project materials consist of the following documents, which can be downloaded in PDF format (by clicking on the title): Stop Malaria in your Community: Nets Discussion Guide for Use by Village Health Teams.
