Media development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Network: Research to Practice

SummaryText
This issue of Family Health International (FHI)'s quarterly Network bulletin explores the way in which research findings are adopted and implemented "to improve health service delivery, policies, and practices."

The first section of the publication discusses how quality research, sound evidence of effectiveness, and best practices are identified. A second section provides case studies demonstrating the "Pivotal Points of Change" that led to research-based changes in health practice. Examples from Mali, Uganda, Thailand, and Turkey demonstrate how both quality and dissemination/communication of research can impact adoption in practice. The issue also highlights a pilot initiative by the Kenya Ministry of Health and its partner organisations aimed at increasing acceptance of, and access to, intrauterine devices (IUDs). The authors describe how a combination of research, education, and training have been used to overcome the barriers to expanding the use of IUDs.
