Media Can Play Due Role To Prevent Bird Flu
This article details some of the issues discussed at a 3-day workshop entitled “Avian Influenza and Pandemic Influenza Awareness and Preparedness,” that was held for journalists in Bangladesh in May 2007. Organised by the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) with support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the workshop helped to educate and inform journalists about bird flu.
According to the article, speakers at the session talked of the important role that the media could play in helping to combat the spread of avian influenza. In particular, journalists were encouraged to raise awareness and educate the public about how to prevent the spread of the virus.
The speakers at the workshop talked about the importance of increasing monitoring and supervision to protect poultry farms against the pandemic. They also urged the government to provide training to poultry farmers on how to check their birds for avian flu.
