Media development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Change Radio (CR) - Nigeria

Change Radio (CR) is a Nigeria-based radio script service that provides news and features on environment and development issues in the form of radio scripts. The scripts also focus on issues such as health, labour, agriculture, human rights, gender, communications, and technology. CR is a project of Communicating for Change (CfC).
Communication Strategies

CfC produces the scripts in English and translates them into Nigeria's 3 main ethnic languages: Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo. CR is also being distributed in French in West Africa; CR's French edition took off in June 1999 after the project recruited a French translator.

The publication is sent to all radio stations in Nigeria; Africa-related organisations in sub-saharan Africa, Europe, and the United States; and radio stations and contacts in West Africa.

"Some of the issues recently highlighted were HIV-AIDS in Africa, micro-credit as an engine for growth in developing countries, international women's conferences in Namibia and New York, pollution and global warming, violence against women, children and women's human rights, the trade of endangered species, ethno-botany, press freedom awards and development broadcasting."
