Media development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText

BBC Media Action (formerly BBC World Service Trust) has launched a blog and website under its new name. It is designed to share conversations, personal observations, and insights of BBC colleagues, partners, and audiences around the world.

Three BBC Media Action colleagues made short films from Somalia, Tanzania, and Nepal that are launched on the website to demonstrate the role that media and communication play in development. According to Caroline Nursey, Executive Director, "We use media and communication to enable people to take action to improve their lives: through adopting a new practice like using bed nets to prevent malaria, or knowing where to get help in the aftermath of disaster, or to be aware of and then claim rights, for example for those who have been trapped in bonded labour. We have asked colleagues from around the world to tell a short story about their work - to describe an ‘action’ that they have seen or undertaken. Our work is all about sharing voices, ideas and opinions and this new website is designed to do just that. "
